HOLLYWOOD NORTH

In British Columbia, the screen sector remains a major economic engine. Creative BC estimates 2022 production spending exceeded ~$3.6B, reflecting a strong rebound and sustained demand from U.S. studios and streamers. In 2023, spending was estimated at ~$2.3B, a temporary dip largely attributed to the 2023 Hollywood strikes and a broader global slowdown.

On the economic contribution side, the Province has cited Creative BC figures showing the film industry generated ~$2.7B in GDP in 2022 and ~$2.0B in GDP in 2023 (strike-impacted). Looking ahead into 2025–2026, B.C. has strengthened its competitiveness by increasing core tax credit rates effective January 1, 2025 (including higher baseline rates for both domestic and production services), reinforcing Vancouver’s position as “Hollywood North” and supporting renewed production momentum post-strike.
